What pushes us to do hard things? Author, athlete, and coach Turia Pitt wants to know. Join her as she interviews some of the worlds most resilient figures, and asks them to reflect on what they’ve learned from doing hard things.
“Preparing for pregnancy and labour is no different than an athlete preparing for an Olympic event”, says Sophie Walker, host of Australian Birth Stories podcast. Despite almost 300,000 births each year, many Australians still don’t know much about what’s involved in carrying a baby to term, or how it can impact the body, outside of their own direct experience. Sophie explains why she wants to change that and some direct tips on how you can be prepared. Introducing my right hand woman and business partner, Grace McBride. From an early age Grace was convinced that fitness was not part of her identity. So when I wanted to start a running program for women, she thought it was a good idea but flat-out refused to take part. Until one day, Grace realised, in order to work on the project she'd need to reluctantly sign up. What happened next changed her entire perspective and approach to challenges in her life. "Running is proof I can do hard things", Grace says. Wonder what it would be like to be a “runner”? Discover more about the Run with Turia program here: https://www.turiapitt.com/run/

It's Refugee Week and I wanted to share the story of Abbas Nazari. He was just a boy in 2001 when his family fled Afghanistan to escape persecution from the Taliban. They wound up on a rickety boat headed to Australia with 400 other hopeful asylum seekers. Shit got real when the engine stopped and the boat was stranded in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The situation became known as the Tampa Affair and it continues to shape our refugee policy to this day. Read Abbas Nazari's book: After the Tampa. I just had this crazy reality TV experience on Celebrity Apprentice and I wanted to share some of the things I learnt… including how I got through so much time away from my kids (hint: it involved wine). Follow Turia on Tik Tok: @turia_pitt or Instagram @Turiapitt.

You might have seen me 'pumping up' Bronte Campbell on Celebrity Apprentice, and why bloody wouldn't I? Bronte's an Australian Olympic champion swimmer who breathes determination, discipline and grit. As a kid immigrant she made a decision to become the best at swimming and that's exactly what she did. But becoming world champion didn't solve all of her problems and in the end Bronte realised, "maybe winning was not the point". Follow Turia on Tik Tok: @turia_pitt or Instagram @Turiapitt.

Tom Tilley is one of our favourite journos. The bloke is paid to be curious, so it’s not surprising he started young: with his own religion. His family was deep in a strict Pentecostal movement (his dad was the pastor). By his early 20s he’d tasted freedom and was ready to exit. But leaving was lonely as hell which, coincidentally, was where he thought he might have been heading... Check out Tom's memoir, Speaking in Tongues. Living with a disability is hard work. Kurt Fearnley's perception of his disability changed the day his school principal put every kid in the school in a wheelchair, and suddenly they were all on the same playing field. From there, he went on to become a world class athlete, Paralympic gold medalist, NSW Australian of the year and more, and he shares with Turia Pitt some of the many lessons he's learned on the way.
